Unani - „the queen of the medicine “(part of 2)
An Italian Fresko (13. Jh.) shows Hippokrates and Galen in the discussion, although they separate 500 years
(openPR) - Ptolemäus, a general of Alexander the large one, created 331 v. Chr. in Unterägypten the famous Alexandria and made it the capital of its realm. Fast met there the most famous philosophers, scientist and physicians.
One from the Egyptian priests and scholars and much learned much were written down and at everyone passed on, which wanted to learn and study. With their over 700' 000 manuscripts the library of Alexandria was the largest stronghold of the knowledge of the time at that time. Also two medical schools erblühten: first the school of kneeling DOS (port in the southwest of today's Turkey) and few years later, because of a scientific dispute, the school of Kos, the birth island of Hippokrates, „the father of the medicine “. Sokrates, Plato, Pythagoras and their pupils impressed likewise its stamp to this great cultural adventure journey.
The ascent of the Roman Imperiums interrupted this development, however only for short time, because the Romans were interested exclusively in political and military topics and the pertinent literature. In all other interests they relied completely on the subjected strangers, all in front the Greek physicians and scientists. In the following centuries many of them contributed this cultural Monumentes to the building, but under them stands out in the second century the living Greek physician Galenus of Pergamon (today Bergama, Turkey) with its inestimable works. Hippokrates and many its Wegbereiter followed the theory of the four elements fires, water, air and earth. It followed the Pythagorean four-juice teachings and described in detail the reciprocal effect between the four elements, the four body juices and the human tempers or mind types. It applies to receive the harmony between these body juices (blood, Schleim, yellow and black Galle) because this is the basic condition for health.
A further important theory developed by Hippokrates is the Physis (the organism in its entireness), according to which the life is regarded as mutual interrelation between the organism and its environment. The organism takes itself from its environment, which it needs to the life and the unnecessary rejects. This reciprocal effect can be the cause for health or illness. A good digesting (Pepsi) of the environment keeps the body healthy, but a digesting disturbance (Dyspepsie) causes an instable situation in the body, which leads to illness.
All environmental influences with are included. The change of the seasons releases unequal weights in the temper, which releases seasonal diseases such as flu and colds. The climate, local changes, everyday life habits such as sleep and work, feelings etc. affect all the humorale system of the four body juices and must therefore be considered, want one the actual reason of an illness find out. But Hippokrates did not only penetrate on a minutiöse observation gift, but fixed also a high ethical standard, to which the physicians until today are to commit themselves (oath of the Hippokrates).
