Hamburg hospital data to the supplying quality: For patient more confusion than decision making aid

(openPR) - after in the past year for the first time with the “hospital leader hospitals of a region data published Rhine Ruhr” to its supplying quality in book form, is now the “Hamburg hospital mirror” pulled tight and in the Internet important information for patients for the selection of a hospital in Hamburg published. Indicators for four particularly frequently occurring medical interferences are published: Gallenblasenoperationen, employment of an artificial hip joint, cancer of the breast operations and heart catheter investigations. Already shortly however further hospital interferences are to be documented (cardiac pacemaker, artificial knee joints, operations at the carotid artery, breaks of the thigh neck and birth assistance), so that information is then present to the nine most frequent hospital operations and investigations.

Involved in the project are altogether 19 hospitals, which cover nearly the complete stationary attendance of patients (90%) of the Hanseatic city. Project partners are beside the technicians health insurance company the physician chamber Hamburg and the consumer center Hamburg. In the Internet for everyone callably now also different indicators of the supplying quality, and this are in the direct comparison of the individual hospitals apart from the number of the accomplished interferences.

If one compares the information in “Hamburg hospital mirrors” with the contentwise poor, although with numbers and words tremendously blown up representations often unclear for patients incomprehensible and structured “quality reports” of the hospitals, which are obligating for hospitals since the past year, then actually some progress is recognizable. Data are not given personal and drop numbers, the machine and therapeutic equipment, to bedding, but the aspect central for patients is treated: Does the hospital in high-quality quality work, so that the medical interference with high probability leads also to an improvement of my complaints

However the progress is then nevertheless rather modest on closer inspection. Also for that Hamburg hospital mirror is applicable that criticism, which recently in an expert's assessment for the Bertelsmann donation “need of patient information about the hospital - a literature analysis was formulated provided by Professor Dr. Doris Schaeffer”: Patient information is so far according to principles arranged, which judge experts of the health service from their scientific perspective for patients and users for important, is thus more at the outsider perspective (expert, physician, scientist) than the Insiderperspektive (patient) oriented.
