From the Pharmaindustrie financed studies come to better medicine evaluation

(openPR) - clinical studies with cancer of the breast illnesses evaluate the therapeutic use of the assigned medicines very much rather positively, if the studies were gesponsert by the Pharma industry. This is the result of an analysis of altogether 140 publications, which was accomplished by cancer researchers from North Carolina and Massachusetts and in April 2007 in the magazine “CAN cerium” is published.

The scientists had again more exactly taken 140 publications over cancer of the breast studies from 10 medical technical periodicals of the classes 1993, 1998 and 2003 renowned due to a data base search under the magnifying glass. The articles were then evaluated according to different criteria: Pharma gesponsert or not Study exit rather positively or negatively

As a first result of the analysis the researchers put out that the interest of Pharmaunternehmen in cancer of the breast illnesses and possibilities of the medicamentous therapy increased obviously. If 1993 were only 44% and 1998 only 38% of the studies pharma gesponsert, then this portion was already 2003 with 58%. A second important result concerns methodical plant of the studies. So-called “einarmige” investigation concepts, in which only one experimental group is present, are methodically substantially worse than “double-armed” concepts, which of an attempt and a control's group consist, and at which the patients are assigned to these groups by coincidence. Here showed up now that the studies of substantial accomplished with Pharma participation use more frequently simple (einarmige) attempt concepts, (66%) as twice as often not pharma gesponserte studies (33%). This in methodical regard very much less founded procedure became just as to the fact clear that in the Pharma studies usually very much less patients participated.

The central interest of realization of the scientists concerned however the connection between the study financing and the study exit. Here was it shown then:
• With analysis only the methodically founded studies with control's groups and coincidental assignment of the patients pharma gesponserte studies come to clearly better results (about 80% positively, 20% negatively) compared with independently financed studies (about 60% to 40%)
• With analysis only the studies from the year 2003 this effect shows up also completely independently of the methodical plant. Thus pharma financed studies find to 90% a positive result, to independently financed studies however only to 50% with methodically founded concepts.
