German tobacco market in paging

West Quickies XL and west Cutter (openPR) - low-priced products are in demand - Reemtsma reacts with west Quickies XL

Hamburg, 23 February 2007 - the German tobacco market is further declining. Also in the year 2006 the total sales decreased/went back - by 6 per cent. The Cigarettenabsatz reduced in the same period by 4 per cent, on 93 billion piece. Mainly trade marks had to lose, while the paragraph of the trade marks remained stable.

The market of the tobacco specialities (fine cut products) is meanwhile in paging. After the taxconditioned omission of the Steckcigaretten (Singles) and the filterless Eco Cigarillos, looks for in particular price-conscious smokers for alternatives. While many buy this smoker increasingly legally or illegaly imported Cigaretten, another part changes to alternative products, like trick or plugging tobacco. Accordingly this market segment, against the general trend, added billion piece from 18 to 23. Reemtsma could increase its market share here from 14,8 to 16,7 per cent.

Further to this positive development to contribute is also the recent new product of Reemtsma: The west Quickies XL, introduced in January 2007. „The west Quickies XL are an attractive offer, for clevere and quality-conscious smokers - in particular for former buyers of Steckcigaretten ", Reemtsma explains Germany boss Titus Wouda Kuipers. West Quickies XL are maximally 180 mm long tobacco strands, which the consumer with the west Cutter can divide himself into as many as desired shorter strands. The Quickies XL fits into all usual Cigarettenhülsen. The consumer pushes the Quickies XL up to the resistance firmly into a case and cuts the supernatant remainder off with the west Cutter. The selling price for a packing west Quickies XL (20 tobacco strands) is with 8,50 euro.
